In San Francisco, California the heartwarming story of compassion has unfolded as an unidentified homeless man lovingly cared for a runaway whippet he found at a park off Eddy Street. The man didn’t have much, but even then, he purchased a crate, a blanket, a pad, food, dog toys and kept the pup for two days.

Despite facing his own hardships, the selfless individual provided shelter, food, and love to the stranded animal. His dedication to the dog’s well-being has captured the hearts of the community.

In a heartwarming tale of compassion and community, the dog’s owner, Bob Eicholz has shared the story of this Good Samaritan and would love to contact him to thank him personally and offer him a reward.

So let’s begin this heartwarming story of two whippets named Wardy and Taylor. The dogs wear GPS trackers on their collars; that is until Wardy lost his. The two dogs had been staying with a pet sitter when Wardy jumped over the fence. And for anyone not familiar with whippets – think smaller versions of greyhounds, and oh, can these dogs run.

Moments after Wardy escaped, a woman in the neighborhood grabbed him by the collar, but the pup panicked and wiggled out of his collar, and he was gone!

According to ABCNews, Wardy had been missing for two days. His owner posted flyers all over the city. Wardy had been spotted several times, and in one of the areas, that’s where the homeless man found the dog. Eicholz described the amazing kindness from a complete stranger …

the homeless man bought him a little crate, a blanket, a pad, food, dog toys and kept him for two days. this is a man who has nothing, and lives in this park. And took care of our little boy. Just makes me think you don’t realize how many kind peope are out there until something like this happens.

It was two days later that another dog walker spotted Wardy after recognizing him from one of the posted photos. She saw the dog the homeless man had, and the dog had no collar; and when she approached the man and asked him about the dog, and showed him the posters, the man handed over the dog, but insisted she take the dog’s new blanket.

There was no doubt the homeless man had been taking good care of Wardy; the dog had been lazily snoozing in the crate.

Wardy is home, and it was through the kindness of a stranger that Wardy was fine.

Eicholz would love to find the man and say “thank you. He would also like to give the man a reward or buy him something he needs. Although the homeless man has not yet been found, Eicholz sends him the following heartwarming message:

that was incredible kind of you to do that. you didn’t have to do that. it touches my heart deeply that you took care of him. Not only food but you also bought him a place to stay. Thank you.
