Beloved senior dog made amazing recovery just moments before she was to be put to sleep

A very loved 17-year-old adopted dog named Luna had seemed to indicate she was ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge this past week, and as emotional and sad as her humans felt, it was time to say goodbye to their poodle. Luna had been adopted seven years ago from Best Friends Animal Society.

Luna and the family’s other adopted pup, Foxy, have their own Instagram page titled RESCUES: Lifestyle + Travel where the two dogs advocate adoptions and share many of their adorable and heartwarming adventures. Maybe adopted dogs are loved a little bit more? And add the senior status – on my – how could they be loved more?

Dr. Melo-Jean Yap and Taina Brown and Foxy live in Baltimore and thought the time to humanely euthanize Luna had come. Luna’s little body had been shutting down, and it had been nearly 24 hours at the emergency veterinarian where she was not able to stand or eat – showing no improvement. Their veterinarian recommended euthanasia, and the family agreed – no one wanted Luna to suffer.

As the family cuddled and kissed Luna in preparation for the first needle to relax Luna and prepare her for euthanasia, she suddenly perked up! No kidding! It had been about dinner time, and all of a sudden she jumped out of her mom’s arms.

Luna started getting up & seemed like she wanted to jump out of Mommy’s arms. So we put her on the floor (maybe she had to pee?? She also got up and did that about 30 mins before), but she wasn’t peeing. So then Mama put a @boccesbakery treat down & Luna started munching it down (she hasn’t wanted to eat for days) & wanted more. Mama then asked for some baby food from the nurse (something they tried feeding her & they even put some in her mouth & Luna didn’t do anything) & she ate half the bottle.

It was obvious Luna wasn’t ready to leave her family, and they had no qualms about cancelling her euthanasia.

And so Luna was on her way home, and by the time she arrived, she had regained her ability to stand and ate half of her dinner.

She told us not today. We feel so blessed by all the well wishes. We hope to celebrate her 18th birthday in December.

Her family is cherishing every day with Luna, as this writer, who also has a senior dog; every moment together is a true gift of love.

On their Instagram page, Foxy couldn’t resist posting a video and an update:

Thanks, y’all for all the 💗 ♥️ for Luna’s healing & recovery over the weekend! 🐾 🐾 You know who’s also super duper happy that she made it back home from the ER vet?? Her seeester Foxy! 🦊 They’re both currently at their regular @banfieldpethospital vet for a follow-up check-up. As seniors, we try to get on top of our health. Prevention is 🔑. We love y’all!

Don’t you just love happy endings?
