All 13 pit bulls who had been seized from a home in Compton, California after a man, believed to have been their owner and breeder, was fatally mauled last week, have been euthanized. The body of Dominic Cooper, 35, was found on Friday morning in his backyard about 12 hours after the attack is believed to have occurred.

According to KtlaNews, 13 pit bulls were found in the backyard by deputies who responded to the home after a report about a man mauled by dogs had been called into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The person who reported the death of Cooper told deputies the man was her boyfriend. There was a surveillance camera that videoed part of the attack. Cooper had been feeding the dogs when some of them began fighting with each other, which apparently lead to the attack on Cooper.

Cooper was believed to have been breeding the dogs. Animal Control took custody of the dogs; there were five adult dogs and eight puppies ranging in ages from four to six months. Cooper’s father surrendered custody of the dogs to Downey Animal Care Center where they were examined and later all were euthanized.

all dogs were euthanized due to evidence linking them to the attack. given the potential threat posed to the community this action was deemed necessary.
