In Boise, Idaho, a man is dead after having been involved in a serious confrontation on Wednesday morning with multiple sheriff’s officers, police and two K9 dogs.

According to an Ada County press release, an Ada County Sheriff’s deputy encountered Jeremiah Gaver, 37, looking over fences while wrapped up in a tarp and walking with a cane. Deputies and one police officer from Boise employed the K9 unit and a beanbag rifle after multiple warnings to Gaver telling him to remove his hands from underneath the tarp.

When the beanbag rifle did not stop Gaver, officers released one of the K9 dogs who jumped the man, however Gaver then stabbed the dog and ran. Officers pursued the man using tasers and then released a second K9 dog in order to subdue the suspect.

As the second dog caught up to Gaver, he stabbed that dog and then turned towards the officers.

Four sheriff deputies and the Boise policeman shot at Gaver. The man died hours later at the hospital. The officers have all been placed on administrative leave, and the incident is being investigated by the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force and the Meridian Police Department.

K9 Astrid of the Ada County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Meko of the Boise Police Department were both stabbed multiple times as they attempted to apprehend the suspect two separate times. The dogs are receiving excellent care
