On State Route 99 between Ventura and Fresno, California, a dog had been spotted lying flat against the highway median. A highway patrol officer initially told rescuers from Pinky Paws Search & ResQ he thought the dog was deceased, and from what he had been told, the dog had been in the same spot for days.

Rescuers, however were convinced the dog was indeed alive, and begged the highway patrol officer to stop traffic for just a few minutes to make sure. Back up was called, and the rescuers were given a few minutes to check while traffic was stopped.

When traffic was stopped, the rescuers proceeded to the spot where the dog had been lying; she was very much alive, and they were miraculously able to get a slip knot around her neck; she was finally safe.

The dog turns out to be a female who recently had given birth to a litter of puppies. She will need two to three days of hospitalization for fluids, bloodwork and additional testing. When she entered the veterinarian hospital, she was full of stickers and foxtails. She has also tested positive for the tick borne disease, anaplasmosis.

This poor girl was starving when she arrived at the hospital and consumed a can of dogfood.

We are sooooo thankful this all worked out. Thank you for helping us help this sweet angel. We can’t wait to see her tail wag and her happiness shine thru. Nova this is your new beginning.
