At the Brooklyn New York City Anima Care Centers, a one-year-old puppy has already been placed on the euthanasia list for tomorrow. Mind you, this 9-pound little guy named Golfer was found as a stray along 60th Street and Bay Parkway on August 28, 2023 and is terrified of the noises, the strangers and the barking from other scared dogs.

Shelter behavior:

Golfer has been intensely fearful in the care center, thrashing and snapping, allowing minimal handling. As a result, we recommend he be placed in an experienced adult-only home.”

On September 5, Golfer was brought into the behavior office for an assessment. He approached the staff and began panting and leaning in. He was panting, pacing and shied away from unsolicited contacts. At that time he was returned to his kennel without any incidents.

The previous day, he stayed at the back of his kennel until the gate was opened. At that time, the pup jumped over to his handler and when taken to the assessment room, dragged his attached leash around the room sniffing and exploring, and then jumped towards his handler looking for attention.

It had been on September 1 that his behavior had been erratic and tense. As to Golfer’s behavior determination, he has been labeled New Hope Only with no children under 13. His challenges include; fearful potential and/or defensive aggression.

  1. Golfer is precious. Probably scared to death (& rightly so). He just needs to decompress from the shelter experience. With patience he will be a wonderful companion. I hope he gets the chance…….
