At the Regina Humane Society located in Regina, SK, Canada, we get to share the heartwarming departure of a long time shelter dog leaving for his new home and his enchanting new life of adventure and love. And so we meet Jax – a longtime resident at the shelter who patiently waited for someone to adopt him.

No one really knows much about the dog’s past, except when he came to the shelter, he was extremely thin and had been scavenging for food on the streets when finally captured. Soon after he arrived, Jax contracted a tough case of pneumonia and stayed in the medical care section for awhile; until he was ready to be eligible for adoption.

Sadly, just because a dog is available on the adoption floor, doesn’t mean a potential adopter is going to stop, and everyone seemed to just pass Jax by; maybe because he was a big boy, but more likely Jax was just being misunderstood. Everyone at the shelter loved Jax, and it broke their hearts to see Jax enthusiastically run to the front of his enclosure and wag his tail, but then … no one stopped to even pet him.

The staff had determined that Jax had become frustrated.

Jax is described by everyone who meets him as loving and sweet, but he has what is known as barrier frustration. When someone walks up to see him in his kennel, he barks and growls—not at the person, but at the fact that there is something in the way of him getting pets and giving love. That first impression can make an impact, but Jax outside of his kennel is a whole different dog. Come meet him yourself, and see him become a big puddle of love!

A sign was placed on Jax’s kennel explaining the situation, but then it was decided to bring the loving pup to the reception area where he blossomed when visitors entered and was able to show what a sweet dog he really was.

And then came the best day for Jax. His new person arrived and wanted to adopt him.

“It was a tearfully happy Friday afternoon when all the staff gathered to send off our boy Jax. He formed a perfect bond with his new dad, and it was time to go home. After greeting his adopter, he made his way around the room and said goodbye to every person there. It was an incredibly sweet moment to end his long stay at the Shelter. Have a great life, Jax!”

Jax has been back with his human – TO VISIT.

We love happy endings, and we thought you might want to see one today. Have a wonderful weekend, and please don’t shop for your next best friend when you can adopt. Check out Jax.

  1. Adopt don’t shop!!! All of our furbabies (including our horses) are “2nd hand furbabies”. Everyone is “chipped and clipped” as part of their adoption. We don’t want to see “litters treated as trash”😢😢😢 it’s really important to spay and neuter ASAP!!!
