In Benton, Louisiana, a small dog was spotted by teenagers returning from their homecoming celebration at 1:00 a.m. on Friday morning, October 20. She was left tied to a speed limit sign near Ellerbe Road. She is lactating, but she is not pregnant, so it is logical there are puppies somewhere.

The dog was first sent to Caddo Parish Animal Services where she was placed in the system as a lost dog. She has no microchip. Until her stray hold has passed under CPA’s diversion program, Ninna’s Road to Rescue will be caring for her; (October 24, 2023), and at which time if she has not been reunited with her owner, she will be legally the rescue organization’s dog and will be sent to their veterinarian for necessary care and then be made eligible for adoption.

Proof of ownership via veterinarian photos and records will be needed to reclaim the dog thus far dubbed “Shoebutton”.

We don’t go off of someone just saying the dog is their dog. You must have proof. We don’t go off “see if the dog will answer to XXX.

At this time, no adoption applications can be taken while the dog is on stray hold. Please stand by until the end of October 24 – (Tuesday).

Let’s not judge. Maybe Shoebutton ran away and someone tied her to the sign so she wouldn’t be hit on the road by a vehicle? Maybe her owner is looking for her now? Please be patient.
