Before the SPCA of Wake County stepped out to help, Petey had been the longest resident at the local county shelter in North Carolina. No one had even offered to adopt Petey, and the small shelter was already over capacity. It was then the shelter reached out to the SPCA of Wake County for help with the sweet, happy young dog. Could they help find this friendly, one-year-old boy a home?

Even though Petey had no new family, the pooch seemed unfazed and loved meeting new people who instantly became his friends. Everyone at the SPCA just fell in love with him, and no one could understand how this perfect youngster never had any adoption offers.

It wasn’t until the staff at the SPCA uploaded his photo to their website, that within weeks someone special fell in love with him. And soon, Petey had found love in all the right places.

This adoption update just melted our hearts! That is the smile of a dog who knows he’s home 🏡

“Petey is settling in perfectly in his new home. He loves sleeping in the bed, playing fetch, and sniffing around the yard. And LOVES playing with his new brother and any other doggy friend he finds. He’s the perfect addition ❤️ Petey is so loved and is opening up and showing us his beautiful personality. I am so happy to have him. ❤️”

Petey came to SPCA Wake in early October from one of our high-intake shelter partners when he was being overlooked by adopters and needed more time and help finding a family to call his own. Thanks to all of you, Petey’s heart is whole again. Thank you so much for making this happen! For Petey and his new family, this is just the beginning 🥰

And every night, Petey reassures all of us he is home; that big smile of content and love is impossible to miss.

Let’s reach out and adopt a new best friend. The SPCA of Wake County has a lot of awesome candidates. How about this boy?

“Today is Buddha’s shelter birthday! As of today, he’s been at the shelter for a whole year. Normally this isn’t the type of birthday we hope to celebrate, but Buddha still deserves something extra special today. It’s treats and belly rubs abound!

When we first met Buddha, he was insecure and struggled to adjust. He found himself in the shelter system as a lost pet who was never reclaimed. For every day of this past year, our trained staff have been working with him to help him shine, and we can honestly say the Buddha in front of us today is like a new dog — more confident, more obedient, and most of all, happier. He’s worked hard and come a long way, and now Buddha is more than ready to join a wonderful family. He has a lot of love to give, and it’s time for Buddha put his shelter days behind him!

Help us make sure Buddha doesn’t have to spend two Christmases in a row at the shelter. Let’s share him as far as we can in the hopes to find this sweet guy a home before the holidays.”
