Meet Tyson the Cane Corso who has his own TikTok account which appropriately states:

It’s Tyson’s world, we just live in it! Cane Corso 6 mo/91lbs of ❤️

In the most viewed video of Tyson’s doggy diary, we tearfully watched the dog collapsing on the floor after being told his daddy wouldn’t be home that night, and Tyson would have to wait until tomorrow. That sad little clip has amassed over 7.7 million views.

At the start of the video, Tyson is seen standing and waiting in front of the door obviously anticipating his dad to walk through the door at any moment. Then we hear his mom’s voice telling him that daddy wouldn’t be home until the next day. Instantly, Tyson’s face loses that animated look of excitement about his dad returning and sadly sits down.

Sorry baby. You can sleep with mommy in bed. You’re breaking my heart.

Even sleeping in bed with his mom does little to comfort the sad pooch, and so many viewers seem to identify with the dog’s sadness. Viewers seemed all too familiar with the emotional feelings of our dogs when we leave them home alone.

if we loved each other the way dogs love the world would be a better place

And now that brings us to the subject of saying goodbye to our dogs when we leave the house. There’s the standing advice that long goodbyes could cause separation anxiety, and if you don’t make a big deal of leaving, your dog will realize that is just part of life, and you will always return.

Of course, there are always more studies, and another one seems to suggest that ignoring your dog when you leave the house is not a way to say goodbye. Studies have shown that petting a dog before you leave has a positive effect and keeps them calm during the separation rather than having been ignored.

Hey, and many of us have goodbye rituals and standard routines when leaving the house and the resident pooch. This writer’s routine is to put a few hidden treats in his doggy puzzle rug when I leave. Austen gets distracted – hence no sad face and instead has a sniffing hunt, then a nap, and before he knows it, I’m home.

What do you do when you leave your dog at home?
