In Riverside, California, students at the Jurupa Unified Mission Middle School had quite the surprise on Monday morning. According to Riverside County Animal Services, a very scared coyote was found hiding in the corner behind a toilet shortly before classes started.

The school staff called animal services to help free the frightened animal and remove him safely from the school’s bathroom. Officer Will Luna was able to use a catch pole to rescue the nine-month-old coyote. The officer then took the animal to a remote wooded area and released him.

School officials have reported several sightings of the coyote in the area in recent weeks, but it had not ventured onto the school’s campus.

We are pleased that this incident was smooth, and all the children were OK and we were able to get the coyote back to its more natural habitat.
