Deputies with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office are being hailed heroes for entering a burning RV to save dogs who were trapped in the smoke-filled interior. On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office wrote:

Sheriff deputies pulled two dogs from a fire overnight in a harrowing rescue attempt captured on body worn camera video. The dogs had inhaled a lot of smoke and had a hard time breathing. Both dogs were unconscious.

Sharing a link to the bodycam video footage of the rescue effort. In the footage, the dogs can be screaming in terror from inside the RV.

The deputies arrived in the nick of time to save the dogs. Within seconds of their arrival, the dogs’ screams were silenced as the thick smoke overtook them. When the dogs were removed from the RV, two were unconscious and a deputy can be seen working to revive them.

Though it is not typical to do so, the dogs received care and were transported in an ambulance. The sheriff’s office said:

Sable Altura Fire Rescue arrived on scene, gave the dogs oxygen and paramedics transported them to VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in the ambulance. The Sable-Altura Fire Chief says they’ve never transported animals before, but had to in order to save them.

Great work to everyone involved!
