Watsonville, CA – A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of whoever is responsible for poisoning two German shepherds. This week, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter issued a release about the reward and cruelty investigation:

PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) who poisoned two dogs, Luna and Bruno, in their family’s backyard on Primrose Lane, causing them to convulse and foam at the mouth before dying.

Recounting the details:

Late in the evening on October 25, the dogs barked in alarm while looking toward their backyard. The next morning, after being let outside as usual, Bruno began showing signs of poisoning and died by 8 a.m. Shortly after licking Bruno to comfort him, Luna became sick, too, and died at a local veterinary hospital, which contacted Animal Control.

During the investigation, the authorities discovered a fence had been tampered with and metaldehyde was deliberately placed in the area of the yard where Bruno died. PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch said:

“Bruno and Luna died in agony after apparently being poisoned in their own backyard. While nothing can bring these dogs back, we can still stop this culprit from striking again, so PETA urges anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately.”

Tipsters should contact Animal Control Officer Todd Stosuy of the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter at 831-454-7254 or [email protected].

  1. We had a dog and cat poisoner in our old neighborhood. Our precious furbabies were all taken to the Animal ER (& thanks to my small inheritance, saved…… had I not been working from home, we would have had much worse results)……

After that incident, we moved and joined a pet friendly neighborhood.

The police and animal control officers collected evidence from our furbabies and others……

I really hope there is not a serial poisoner on the loose……. I don’t understand why someone would do this???

For many people, our furbabies are an important part of our family and we love them as much as human members of our family…….

I hope that whoever is responsible for murdering these precious furbabies is found and arrested for these crimes……

  2. Who ever poisoned these precious dogs, will think nothing of doing it to a human. They need to be brought to justice and pay for what they did. My heart goes out to the owners of Luna and Bruno, Losing your pets like this has to be devastating. My thoughts and prayers are with you, may happy memories get you through this horror.
