Police in Palm Beach County, Florida, are offering a $13,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of whoever shot a German shepherd in the face last week. The dog, named Bella, was found last Wednesday “bleeding profusely” from her face.

Bella got out of a screened-in porch at her home in Wellington shortly before someone shot her. As reported by WPBF News, the dog’s family was in the process of searching for her when they learned that she had been shot...just blocks away from home.

The injured shepherd was taken in at Big Dog Ranch Rescue; the organization has taken custody of the dog and renamed her Empress. Bella’s original family had to give their dog up because they are unable to afford the staggering veterinary costs stemming from her injuries, which include a broken jaw and the need for surgery to remove bullet fragments near her spine.

On Friday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office wrote:

What kind of person could do such a thing to a poor defenseless animal? The coward shot this German Shepherd in Wellington and left her to bleed. Whoever it was almost killed her after she escaped from home on Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS
