A 26-year-old Ukrainian woman delivering food on Friday to a dog shelter in Bucha just 18 miles away from Kyiv was killed alongside two of her friends in a close range attack in the vehicle they had packed with pet food.

According to the Daily Mail, Anastasiia Yalanskaya insisted on staying to help even after her friends and family fled from the war torn area. Anastasiia’s friends and family contend she was intentionally targeted at close range by Russian troops, and believe that Putin’s plan to kill innocent civilians at random is his latest plan to scare the citizens of Ukraine into submission.

The woman’s estranged husband pleaded with her to be very careful, but Anastasiia insisted she was helping and stuffed the vehicle with food and headed towards the animal shelter which had been without supplies for three days. The town had already been nearly flattened by Russian troops pushing their way to Kyiv.

On Anastasiia’s Instagram account, the photo of her sitting in the backseat of a vehicle alongside of bags of food was especially devastating to everyone who knew the heroic young woman.

The vehicle the trio had been traveling in was found on their way home after delivering the supplies to the shelter. There has not been a positive identification of Anastasiia’s body; her driver’s license and her tattoos however, have been identified by her friends.

Anastasiia had been chronicling her life since the unprovoked invasion in Ukraine began and spoke of how proud she was to being Ukrainian. Before her death, she wrote about a kindergarten in Brovary with 40 children who had also been without food and diapers as well as bringing aid to a military hospital and bringing food for volunteer dogs.

The hotter the location you are heading to the more people there will be at the roadblocks trying to dissuade you from going. But when they see the determination in your eyes, they will wish you strength, they will thank you and ask you to be careful.

I am tired. Third day in the car. Could not get to Irpin. They blew up the bridge where I went yesterday. Tomorrow we’ll try to enter from another side.
