A dog miraculously survived a horrific incident which claimed the life of his owner earlier this week. Pecas (Freckles) the dog was inside of a Toyota Avalon that was crushed by a train in Santa Ana, California, on Monday evening.
According to NBC Los Angeles News, 61-year-old Juan Jose Espinoza Padilla, the driver of the Avalon, died when the Los Angeles-bound train collided with the car, which had inched onto the tracks.
In a Tweet, the Santa Ana Police notified followers that the dog managed to escape serious injury and was returned home to his family:
Due to the high volume of inquiries received regarding an update on the dog who was involved in the fatal traffic collision (Metrolink Train vs Vehicle) last night, we are happy to report Pecas (Freckles)🐾 he has been reunited with his family & is recovering
Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna recounted a witness’ statement about what happened:
“The southbound train passes him and, according to the witness from across the street, he goes, apparently not knowing about a northbound train.”
