Little girl gets 6-foot shark for her birthday present

In Crystal Beach, Texas, a little girl told her parents she wanted a shark for her birthday. Obviously, the shark wasn’t to be kept in a safe aquarium at a refuge or wildlife park – rather the reason the child wanted the 6-foot shark remains a mystery.

According to WmazNews,  the parents and the little girl were celebrating the child’s seventh birthday at Crystal Beach in Texas when she told her parents she wanted a shark. The men had been fishing and when they felt the pressure on their pole fought the black-tip shark for nearly 45 minutes before bringing it ashore.

The father stated they did not release the shark back into the ocean because there were many families and children swimming in the area. As described in Human Interactions

“Timid and skittish, the blacktip reef shark is difficult to approach and seldom poses a danger to humans unless roused by food. However, people wading through shallow water are at risk of having their legs mistakenly bitten.”

Perhaps the photo opportunity posted on Facebook apparently has brought  outrage to many on social media – many viewers with questions about animal cruelty and respect for wildlife. What do you think? (That photo has since been removed, but it showed a child sitting on the back of a presumably dead shark.)

What do I think? What is this teaching your child, that it’s ok to kill a living thing just because you want it for your birthday. Had this been my child she would have gotten a trip to the aquarium and bought a stuffed shark. I think this is disgusting!

These parents must be arrested for child endangerment and for being stupid. Kids shouldn’t always get what they want and this little entitled girl is growing up to mistreat animals already. Sharks are not for sitting on

As a parent you are SUPPOSED TO BE SMART ENOUGH to know when to tell your child NO. Wild animals SHOULD ALWAYS BE A NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You don’t give a kid anything they want!

Wow, so a shark lost her life because the self centered, entitled humans needed to frolic on the shark’s beach? Teach your children kindness towards those who cannot defend them selves and this planet would be a much better place for all species. Petty people indeed….. 🙁

It’s stupid. Now other people will do the same thing and it is all just abuse. They should have released it back into the water. Stupid spoiled brat gets her way and is shown that animal abuse is ok.
