A hunter captured the heart-stopping moment that wildlife in the Fire River area of Ontario, Canada, fought back. Richard Wesley was on a spring bow hunting outing when he caught sight of a bear in the distance.
Wesley did not shoot at the approaching animal, who ambled in the distance. Suddenly, the seemingly peaceful co-existence changed and the bear charged directly at Wesley.
According to RT.com, Wesley is an experienced hunter and he knew that bears will sometimes bluff when they charge, so he stood his ground and screamed – the camera falls to the ground and for an instant, the man’s fate is unknown.
Moments later, Wesley picks up the camera and it is apparent that he is miraculously unscathed. The video, which was uploaded to YouTube on May 22, includes a few words about the frightening encounter:
I am so happy after this confrontation with a black bear during our spring hunt. No wounds except a bruised elbow and ego where the bear threw me down. Genuinely happy that this was a non fatal or tragic outcome. Proving that the black bear is a wild and unpredictable animal. Again so happy with the outcome.

Thieving husky caught in the act – read (and watch) this sneaking bandit here!
Perhaps he should take a lesson from this encounter? I’m certain that the bear would not have been the grateful recipient of such non-lethal compassion…since I DID notice in the video that his arrow was notched in preparation…
Try LIVING IN RESPECTFUL HARMONY with the natural world, instead of consistently exhibiting our species’ most vile of traits – the wanton, random, senseless and needless KILLING of other so-called lower-life-forms (as well as each other)?!
And DON’T try excusing this man’s “need to hunt” on the necessity of providing sustenance for his table: THAT’S WHAT F*CKING GROCERY STORES ARE FOR!
He should thank his God (and this bear) that he’s still alive…
resqdogz…AMEN…!
Yep, you said it perfectly. This idiot is damn lucky that bear did not shove that bow right up is arse. He needs to remember that he is only alive because that bear let him live.
For some reason I’m not feeling too much sympathy for the hunter. GO BEAR!!!!!!!!!
He was ready, but the bear was too smart for him. Needless to say, I wouldn’t root for the hunter…..
Is it wrong, but I was rooting for the bear the entire time. Just like the recent case where a hunter was crushed by an elephant. Karma can be a real b**** at times.
I was also rooting for the bear.
Yes go bear! I don’t know that he did the world a favor! Stop killing for “fun”!!!
The Hunter is nothing more than a MURDER. I wish the bear had snuffed the Life out of him so no more innocent lives are taken.
Sorry!!! BUT .. my sympathy & compassion is with the “bear”. To me hunters are shit .. especially those who like to pose with their murder victims.
The arrow he had notched looks like one we used in archery practice in Jr, High. Bow hunters almost never get a clean kill. They follow and sit and wait for their kill to slowly bleed out and die. That arrow would have just pissed off the bear even more. What an idiot! Says he should have shot the bear a long time ago for scaring him like that, SMH. I hope he had to walk home with a load in his pants! A**hole!
Cherie, I agree with you and mentioned you in my comment. I di not know they “follow” and wait for animal to die a tortuous death. Thanks for informing me and others! They should ban arrow hunting!
Just for the record. he had his bow cocked, regardless of the fact that he says he didn’t shoot. Disgusting “ego” to make the video, I think. His comment tells it all at end, including four-letter expletive. Like Cherie Craig said, it is not a humane way to hunt. Shouldn’t hunt at all. The y are endangered!
