In the Limpopo province of South Africa, notorious big game trophy hunter, Riaan Naude was discovered in his vehicle shot and killed earlier this week. Naude had reportedly stopped his vehicle on the side of the road when it overheated when a second vehicle allegedly approached, and a man shot Naude in the head at close range.

According to World Animal News, the two suspects in the second jeep also stole a gun. Police spokesperson, Lt. Col. Mamphasaw Seabi stated they found Naude’s lifeless body next to his vehicle. Police found two other hunting rifles, clothing, water, alcohol and pajamas in the victim’s vehicle.

A motive for the killing has not been made public, however local sentiment towards Naude may have been involved…

“…high level of hatred that the locals had for the hunter, due to the enormous number of animals he killed…”

Environmentalist Julio César Martínez confirmed the news through his Twitter account. Many of the comments lauded the end of Naude’s life in defense of the wild animals he killed and proudly posed with on social media.

“Hunted hunter. There’s a party in animal heaven. I’m not happy, but animals shouldn’t be anyone’s trophy, they should live and survive in their natural habitat.

“No more mistreatment of defenseless animals.”
