In Atlanta, Georgia, through the Facebook page of Adoptable Pets of Lifeline, we meet Dream. This sweet dog’s surrender to DeKalb County Animal Services did not come from having lived a life of cruelty; instead she arrived at the shelter because her owner had run out of options.

Dream and her owner Phil Smith had been together since Dream had been a six-week-old puppy. Now she’s six-years-old, and the two had been inseparable.
Dream’s owner lost his job, and then he lost his home. The two had been living together in Phil’s car, but he couldn’t leave the dog alone when he went on job interviews.
And then the day came this week that Phil realized loving his dog meant letting her go.
Volunteer Jennifer Galloway posted the heartbreaking details of Dream’s story:

When he surrendered her today, he didn’t just cry – he sobbed. The kind of crying that comes from knowing you’re doing the right thing and still feeling like your heart is breaking in half.
So what kind of dog is Dream?
From what we have been told, Dream is a big, gentle dog who is dog friendly and very sweet. Although she looks a little rough right now, it’s because life has been tough, but that hasn’t changed her sweet disposition.

Phil would love for Dream to go into a foster home where she can decompress and relax. Phil would love to have her back when he gets back on his feet. Better yet however, Phil would love a home for her where her new family could give her everything he could not. He had tried programs that keep families and their dogs together, but there remains a long waiting list.
Meanwhile, Dream is lonely for her human. She doesn’t understand why she is in a kennel amid loud noises and strangers. She is alone, and her whole world has collapsed. Dream is just one dog in a shelter with 500 other dogs.
Now it’s time for Dream to have a foster family, a rescue organization or a family to make all her sadness fade away. Please share her story; sharing saves lives.
