New Jersey State Trooper rescues orphaned bear cub near busy highway

On Wednesday, April 1, a New Jersey State Trooper from the Perryville Station, rescued an orphaned bear cub spotted along Interstate 78 in Union Township.

The troopers had responded to a call about the lone three-month-old bear cub spotted in a ditch along the highway. When officers arrived, they found the cub and transported him back to the barracks.

It had been reported that a bear had been struck by a vehicle a few days ago in the same area; it may very well have been the cub’s mother.

Needless to say, the adorable little guy was a hit and quickly made social media news. We are happy to report he does seem healthy, and as has been stated by the many comments on the Facebook page for the troopers – this little guy’s rescue was appreciated.

The cub was later released to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for care.

Thanks to the swift response of the troopers, the cub is now safe and receiving the attention he needs.

This is by far the cutest story of the day! Hoped you enjoyed!
