Back in October 2025, Dog Days Search & Rescue, reunited a 93-year-old man from West Hills, California and his best friend, seven-year-old yellow Labrador retriever, Sunny. The friendly dog had been adopted from a local shelter four years ago, and the two had been constant companions.

On October 4th, Norman Feigenbaum had been making a quick trip to the supermarket on his mobile chair, and when he returned, the yellow Lab had escaped from his home after jumping over a fence in the backyard. Friend and neighbors had searched the area, but with no success; that’s when Dog Days Search & Rescue joined in the search.
One week later, a homeowner near the Chatsworth Reservoir, spotted Sunny walking up one of the roads in the preserve. The gated area, made up of 1,300 acres would be a daunting task for rescuers, but the team was not to be deterred. They set up cameras near a few of the coyote dug holes to gain entrance to the fenced line. And there she was; that night Sunny showed up briefly on the camera. Yes, she had been inside of the preserve.
Oct 16th, almost thirteen days after she went missing, Sunny walked into our trap and she was safe.
Later that night, Sunny happily ran out of the trap and right to Norm. Her tail was wagging, and she literally had the biggest smile on her face. There wasn’t a dry eye as Norm lovingly scratched her head.
Fast forward to January 2026. In a heartbreaking update, Sunny’s beloved human companion is no longer able to care for himself and is moving into an assisted living facility. Sunny is not able to go with him as no dogs are allowed. No one in Norman’s family can help.

Sunny has one week to find a home, or she is at risk of being taken to an animal shelter.
Please share Sunny’s story. She is seven years old, housetrained, spayed and up to date on all vaccinations. She had been adopted as a stray and has been a loyal companion and protector for years. She is reported to be good with other dogs after “a proper introduction.” She is located in Chatsworth, California.
She has not been tested with children or cats.
If you are interested in adopting her, please contact representatives at [email protected]. They will put you in touch with Norm after a few screening questions.
Please stay positive. This is to help find a loving home for Sunny.
