At the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, during the Thanksgiving holiday, someone arrived at the rescue organization with a very skinny puppy and asked if someone would take her. The 10-week-old puppy was adorable, and the staff thought the puppy would find a home within a half hour.

All that glitters is not gold. There was a problem; the puppy named Kimiko was very, very sick and could not even be placed in a foster home. She was not able to keep any food down and vomited everything given to her in an instant. Her test for Parvovirus was negative, and so it was time to delve deeper.

Further testing determined she had a rare condition where an aberrant vessel near the heart was wrapped around and constricting her esophagus. Because of this, her esophagus was distended much like a balloon. Veterinarians inserted a PEG feeding tube. She needed to gain weight before surgery would be an option for her.

Kimiko is the strongest little tiny baby in the world. She’s doing really well with her feeding tube, and loves to play. She recently battled a case of pneumonia, but this little fighter made it to the other side! She will continue loving life and getting stronger, before her big surgery in January
And now nearly two months later, it was Kimiko’s chance to live a better life than with a feeding tube. On Friday, Kimiko underwent surgery with the best veterinarians in the Midwest. All of her doctors and nurses adore her, and statistically there is an 87 percent improvement rate as long the surgery proceeds as it should.

AND THE GOOD NEWS!
Kimiko did fine in surgery. She will now be back at her foster home to rest.
