In Irvine, California, Rachael Rennie, thwarted one of the scariest coyote attacks against her dog last Saturday evening while on a walk with her two small dogs, Mishka and Rocky. Both wore harnesses and were leashed.

Almost immediately, Rachael noticed a coyote running towards them from across the street. She yelled at it and tried desperately to scare it away from her dogs, but it wouldn’t back off. The coyote grabbed Rocky, a Schnauzer-poodle mix, by the neck, pulling him out of his harness and carried him off. Rachael was not giving up and chased after the coyote. Her other dog Mishka ran to the front door of their home, and Rachael’s roommate got her inside safely.

Thanks to the help of lots of kind neighbors who came outside during the chaos, they managed to scare the coyote into dropping the dog and then running away.
Rocky was left in serious condition and was rushed to the veterinarian for emergency life saving treatment. A GoFundMe account has been helping to pay for Rocky’s expensive treatment, and Rachael is extremely grateful for the community’s help.
On Friday, May 9th, Rocky was released from the hospital:

Rocky is home!!!! First thing he did was climb into my lap and go to sleep. I’ll have more to say later but right now I’m just enjoying being with him.
Rachael’s story of her scary experience with the coyote attack is hoped to bring more awareness to other pet owners. Residents are encouraged to report coyote sightings.
