In Largo, Florida, four Muscovy ducks were killed by a driver in a minivan who neighbors said intentionally ran them over while the birds were crossing the street.
The disturbing incident occurred in the Whispering Pines mobile home community on Sunday. Although Muscovy ducks are not native to Florida and are considered by some people as annoying and an invasive species, surely that was no excuse to take aim with an automobile and run them over.

Muscovy ducks are protected in Florida from cruelty but are not protected by state wildlife laws. They are, however protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Harming them is illegal under animal cruelty statutes, but they are not subject to the same regulations as native wild ducks. For control or removal, landowners must use humane methods, often requiring professional help as relocation is illegal.

When residents checked their security cameras, videos showed a driver in a minivan running over a group of ducks in the middle of the road. Neighbors discovered four birds dead.
Neighbors said they filed a report with the Largo Police Department. Residents are asking for more videos from neighbors to help them track down the license plate on the vehicle.
Residents want justice.
