In Denver, Colorado, a 26-year-old horse was found by her owner trapped in a mud pit in rural Boulder County on Thursday afternoon. Rescue crews were dispatched to help and a few hours later, the mare was pulled safely to solid ground.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call from the property owner reported his horse named “Sweetie” trapped in the mud. When the owner first tried to free the Warmblood, the owner became stuck. A neighbor responded to the call for help and alerted the sheriff’s office about the dangerous situation.

Responders from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Unit, Emergency Services Unit, Boulder Fire Rescue, Boulder Rural Fire Rescue, and Boulder Emergency Squad arrived and worked together to safely free the horse.

A veterinarian from VetweRx was on scene and provided care during the rescue. Rescue personnel and the veterinarian on call worked to get the exhausted horse back on her feet.
In an update, Sweetie is reported to be doing well and is being monitored at the veterinarian large animal hospital.
