Why are tourists so self-absorbed thinking that selfies are the “be all” when on vacation? Perhaps consider the near death experience which occurred in a restricted sanctuary at a temple in Karnataka, India last Sunday; it was when a man tried to take a close-up photo of an elephant and was nearly trampled to death for being so stupid.
In an openly embarrassing and nearly fatal retaliation, the elephant chased the man and nearly trampled him to death, and also stripped off the man’s pants revealing his bare behind.

The video went viral and sparked outrage as there have continued to be repeated warnings against getting too close to wild animals and giving them respect.

The tourist, identified by local media as R. Basavaraju, according to the Daily Mail, had trespassed into a restricted area where an elephant had peacefully been eating carrots near the side of the road. The elephant had been startled by the camera flash and instantly became agitated and defensive. It immediately raised its trunk and ran after the tourist.
Basavaraju attempted to run away, but tripped and fell on the road as the elephant got closer and stomped on him; finally ending the attack by ripping off the man’s pants and exposing his bare behind.
Fortunately for Basavaraju, the elephant left his victim lying on the road and walked away. The man was immediately rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
He has since been fined for trespassing and provoking wildlife. India is home to 30,000 wild elephants and people need to respect wild life.
