In New York City, a man stabbed a leashed German shepherd/pitbull mix to death on Saturday, following an argument with the dog’s owner while walking in Central Park. The gravely injured dog was rushed to a local animal emergency hospital where the decision was made to humanely euthanize her due to the extent of her injuries.

According to the Daily News, an argument ensued between the man and the woman when the assailant’s unleashed dog attacked the woman’s dog. As the woman tried to separate the dogs, the man pulled out a switchblade and stabbed the woman’s shepherd/pittie mix named Eli.

Dog owners in the area are now on high alert after the disturbing incident which occurred around 106th Street and Fifth Avenue. The couple whose 13-year-old dog what had been stabbed had been walking in the area with their other dog, Sadie; both dogs had been leashed.

The couple walked past the man with three pit bull type of dogs – two which were not leashed. That’s when one of the dogs tried to bite the couple’s Chihuahua, and the reckless owner of the unleashed dogs told the couple not to worry, and it was okay.

At that moment, the men started to argue. According to NBC News, the owner of the small dog kicked the unleashed dog, and at that point the assailant took out a switchblade and stuck the couple’s dog. The couple took a photo of the man as he walked away with his dogs, and rushed Eli to the veterinarian where the dog’s injuries were so severe, she had to be euthanized.

No arrests have yet to be made, however an investigation is ongoing. Dog walkers are reminded to remain vigilant. This just isn’t right! The suspect is described as a man wearing an orange shirt, orange hat and blue jeans.
