In Woodland Hills, California, a six-month-old puppy jumped out of a moving car onto the 101 Freeway, narrowing avoiding oncoming traffic and somehow survived. The shocking video below shows the puppy jumping out onto the highway, and heading straight towards a semi truck and other vehicles moving closer, but miraculously, the pup named Sophie – survived.

Ryan Cramer, whose Tesla’s camera caught the entire scary moments back in December 2022, tells the story. The family had been fostering the terrier mixed puppy assisting the local shelters with overcrowding. Cramer had been driving home after picking his children up from school with Sophie in the car. On their short journey, a particular odor permeated the air, and the family thought that Sophie had farted – and lowered the back seat window where Sophie then stuck her head out of the window.

Moments later, one of the children screamed as the dog bolted out of the window and started to tumble down the road – proceeding to avoid an oncoming semi-truck and other vehicles just as the puppy rolled and ran off to the side of the road.

Cramer immediately pulled over to the shoulder of the road to find Sophie; afraid the puppy had been crushed by traffic. Somehow, the pup survived and the family scooped her up into their arms and headed towards the emergency veterinarian hospital.

It was truly a miracle that Sophie survived; she suffered a hip fracture and some minor scrapes and scratches. Withing two weeks, the puppy was walking again and a full recovery is expected within eight weeks.

According to KcraNews, Ryan credits the other drivers on the freeway for their quick responses for stopping and helping when they spotted the puppy on the road.

The puppy has since been officially adopted by the Cramer family, and they are sharing this experience for people traveling with pets and the safety measures all of us pet parents should consider. Make sure your pet is secured, and don’t let them stick their heads out of the windows. Yes, we all know how dogs like to take in the sights, love the wind on their faces as they pick up the scents of new areas, but we truly never know what could motivate a pet to jump – just like Sophie did.
