A Calvert County, Maryland family is distraught after they claimed an Amazon delivery truck driver ran over and killed their 15-year-old dog without telling them.
According to NbcWashington, the Weimaraner, Starr, had been a rescue dog that had overcome tremendous odds in the past. Danielle Von Oehsen had adopted the dog, who had become “like one of her children,” when she was seven years old.
Home surveillance video showed the Amazon truck pulling into the family’s driveway on Tuesday. The dog could be seen walking up to the truck.

The driver only stopped for a moment, and then moved his truck sideways and saw Starr lying motionless on the driveway. And then the man just drove away.
The family had been unaware of what had happened until they called for Starr, and she didn’t respond. When they walked outside and saw their dog lying on the driveway, at first they thought she had fallen over, but after checking, the dog was barely breathing.
It wasn’t until they spotted the package delivery from Amazon did they then check the surveillance video. The family has filed a police report with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and also to Amazon.
Amazon’s initial response to the family was heartbreaking and pathetic:
Amazon said that they were gonna give us $5 and give us a wind chime, and whenever the wind blows, we can remember the dog.

The company later posted a more supportive statement for the family’s loss of their dog and are working with the delivery service partner to investigate what happened.
The family has since started raising money to advocate and file suit to get better protocols and laws to protect pets and children where packages are delivered. They now have a chain up at the end of their driveway to prevent any of their other pets from being harmed.

A Fed Ex delivery drive stole my cat, drove back out to the highway where he threw her out dead into the ditch 2 months ago. I don’t know if he killed her first or if throwing her killed her.
I had been battling with them for over a year because they would dump my Chewy delivery out in the road instead of my front door. Needless to say I don’t use any company any more that uses Fed Ex.
These delivery companies don’t care who they hire. Even 7/11 does background checks.
