In Bedford Heights, Ohio, a Bedford Heights K-9 officer reluctantly returned his beloved dog to the police department early Tuesday morning.

According to FoxNews, K-9 Officer Bosco has been under the care of Ryan Kaetzel for the last five years. Ryan, who has been an officer with the department since 2018, wanted to take Bosco with him, since the dog had been nearing the point in his career where he could retire.

The Kaetzel wanted to spend Bosco’s senior years together, but that was not to be. Early this morning, surrounded by family and fellow K-9 officers, Bosco was separated from his handler and family and returned to the Bedford Heights Police Department.

Bosco had been purchased, trained and maintained by taxpayers as a highly skilled K-9 officer.

Initially, Kaetzel stated he had been told by the police chief that the city would sell the dog to him for $1.00, but later rescinded the offer. Bosco is to be reassigned to a new officer.

A GoFundMe account has been created by a family friend who said the goal is to raise $15,000 to “pay back the city” the cost of training and maintaining a police dog in order that Kaetzel can bring Bosco home.

if the department decides to let the keatzels keep bosco we will donate the donations to the animal shelters around our area.

What do you think? Should Bosco and the Kaetzel family be allowed to stay together? What about the cost of replacing Bosco for the community?
