A mom from Florida has been receiving significant backlash after a TikTok video explained why she decided to keep the family dog after the cocker spaniel bit her three-year-old child’s face. The mother defended her decision to keep the dog named Bart, claiming the dog never “attacked” the child, but instead had acted in self-defense.

The mom, Klara Tsetkin, posting on TikTok as (@klara_tsetkin) posted videos of her daughter’s facial injury which required stitches, but emphatically stated that Bart had been sick and had tried to hide under the bed, “but that his hind legs gave out, and he couldn’t crawl away.”

Our 3 year old daughter did not understand that the dog needs to rest today and not touch him… she began to touch him even more, sit on him and climb onto his face and hurt him.

Many TikTok followers have criticized the woman and implied (some people quite explicitly) that Bart meant more to her than her daughter. Klara did clarify this incident occurred more than three years ago, and that the scar on her now five-year-old is still visible because of how the corrective procedure had been done.

We are planning to do a scar resurfacing. If there are those who want to help our princess, we will be eternally grateful.

Other followers on TikTok weren’t nearly as critical of the idea that the mom should have given up her dog or brought the pet to her veterinarian to be euthanized.

Young children and dogs – no matter how easy going the dog, need to ALWAYS be supervised and never left alone.

  1. Many years ago my 3 year old kept chasing my chihuahua around the house. I kept telling him no but he kept doing it. When she ran into her crate he stuck his head inside and she nailed him on the nose! He screamed and backed out of the crate real fast. I said to him “I told you leave Sassy alone and now she bit you.” He NEVER chased her again or cornered her in the crate. After she bit his nose he respected all pets. Some kids do not listen they have to deal with the consequences. Little kids understand the word no…
