Edinburg police officers arrest juvenile for kicking soccer ball at trapped small dog

In Edinburg, Texas, police have arrested a juvenile after a video circulating on social media showed disturbing animal cruelty.

According to the department, officers arrived on Quail Avenue on Thursday after having received numerous calls concerning a youngster kicking a small dog. A video showed a young man placing a red bucket over a small Shih Tzu and then kicking a soccer ball aimed at the bucket. In addition, the kid was also seen grabbing the dog by its neck and kicking the bucket while the dog was trapped underneath.

In a press release from the Edinburg Police Department, the video was what prompted the investigation and subsequent arrest of the juvenile.

It was determined that the juvenile’s actions warranted enough to detain him on Friday, March 10, along with removing t he animal from the residence.

Police officers confirmed that the pet involved in the incident was unharmed. Edinburg PD Criminal Investigators are actively looking into the case, which remains open.

The minor has been charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals and taken to Hidalgo County Juvenile Probation Center.
