In response to a car fire late last month, the Douglas County’s Sheriff’s Office in Colorado, quickly responded. Deputies saw the car parked on the street with smoke filling up inside, and a man was next to the car throwing something at the back window as if trying to break it.

According to Deputy Michael Gregorek, the man who was frantically trying to break the window, was the owner of the dog, named Hank who was trapped in the vehicle. Gregorek, a dog lover himself, knew exactly what to do.

The car was locked, but that didn’t deter the heroic deputy who broke windows to give the dog some air. As the back window collapsed in tiny pieces, Hank peeked out of the vehicle, and his owner rushed over to pull him out of the car, but the dog was too heavy.

Hank comes to the back window, he’s salivating, you can tell that he’s in distress. The owner was trying to pull him out, not successfully.

And that’s when the officer stepped in to help and reached inside of the car and pulled the dog out. He carried Hank towards the house and set the dog down in the snow. The entire rescue was recorded on the officer’s bodycam, and everyone held their breath as the situation occurred.

A neighbor who was a veterinarian checked on Hank, and even though the dog breathed in quite a bit of smoke, he is expected to make a complete recovery.
