At the Montville Animal Shelter in New Jersey, two-year-old Bruno had been looking for a family to adopt him. He arrived at the shelter in November after his former family had surrendered him because the child in the household had developed an allergy to cats. Everyday the adorable feline wished for a new family to love.

Two months later, Bruno’s wish came true, or at least he thought it had, when a single mother and her young daughter adopted him. Sadly, that only lasted a week, because the first time cat owners didn’t like Bruno always following them around, always wanting to sit and cuddle on their laps or head butt them for kisses and hugs. And to top it all – they didn’t like Bruno getting playful at night and doing “zoomies.” Often the little girl would be kept awake by the cat’s antics according to her mom.

And so Bruno was returned to the shelter after only a week, but the disappointment played hard on the sensitive cat’s feelings, and he became depressed.

So if anyone is looking for a Velcro cat, he’s your guy

So what’s a shelter to do when a pet really needs help finding a new home? If you guessed – putting it all out there on social media often gets the job done, you’re correct! And with that – Bruno’s story went viral, and not long after that, the applications to adopt the sweet feline came pouring in.

Finally, the rescue had to ask people to stop sending in applications, but all was not lost just because Bruno was soon to be adopted. As would be adopters arrived at the Montville Animal Shelter, other cats waiting for homes lucked out. Bruno’s plight brought lots of happiness and new homes to lots of cats.

If you would like to meet the cats and kittens, the shelter is open to the public between 9-12 and 3-4 Monday through Friday, (no weekend hours at this time) for meet and greets. Please fill out an application prior to coming to speed up the process. If your application is approved, you will be able to adopt the same day! Please send the application to [email protected] or drop it off at the shelter. We do not adopt out of state.

Live long and enjoy your life Bruno.
