Florida has approximately 4,050 black bears according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. In the 1970s, there were only a few hundred black bears left in the state, however the conservation program continues to be successful. Attacks on humans are rare, but citizens are reminded these are wild animals and to make sure everyone gives the bears plenty of space.
