A 13-year-old dog beloved by his family was shot on Wednesday evening by an unknown person and later had to be humanely euthanized because of her fatal injuries.

According to CbsNews, the Mountain Brook, Alabama family, described their dog, Gigi as kind and gentle. She had been given to Adele Culp’s son Richard when she was just a puppy.

Somebody shot and killed my dog in my driveway tonight. She wasn’t barking. She was just in our yard. She was shot at 8:15. No idea who. Working with the police.

Our dog was 13. My son is 22. He had her more than half his life.

A neighbor heard a gunshot noise from her home and ran outside to find Gigi seriously wounded. They helped to put the dog in the car, but her life couldn’t be saved. Gigi was the kind of dog everyone loved an rarely barked and wiggled with love and excitement whenever she would greet someone.

Gigi was old, could barely walk, and the question remains – who would come onto a family’s private driveway and shoot an innocent dog?

The Mountain Brook Police Department are investigating the shooting.

We are so sorry Gigi; rest in peace.
