Never give up! Ask Kansas, the dog who was the longest-term resident at the Humane Society of Central Arizona. The blue nose pit blend had been an all time favorite at the rescue organization – for more than 1,000 days and would sadly watch other dogs walking out with their new families day after day.

Kansas entered the shelter on December 16, 2020 and just wiggled his adorable way into the hearts of staff and volunteers. Kansas was found as a stray near Roosevelt Lake; he had very serious injuries that the staff concluded came from a run-in with a javelina. After many months of healing and medical care, he regained his health and his constant optimistic attitude for a real home some day soon.

Here was Kansas last Christmas; he was smiling, loving life and still waiting for the perfect home.

And then his day finally came. It was October 24, 2023 that the rescue threw out a few hints that Kansas would soon be leaving for the future he had been dreaming about for the last three years:

Hi everyone … Kansas here.

I just wanted to share some great news with all my fans out there….

There’s a very good chance I will have my family before the holidays, of course I have my shelter family and they have taken very good care of me. I love them very much and I know they love me! I don’t want to have my 3 year anniversary at the shelter though. I prefer to stop by and visit.

So stayed tuned ….. more news to come.

And yes, Kansas matters as do all dogs waiting for homes in shelters and rescues across the United States. And on October 28, Kansas was adopted.

Today is honestly one of the best days at HSCAZ. To him, all the staff and volunteers were his family. Well, today he has his own home and family to call his own. We couldn’t be happier for him!
