15 year old Doberman surrendered to Texas shelter because he’s old

Sometimes the morning news related to animal rescue make us shake our heads in disbelief and wonder what is wrong with people – more pointed – what is wrong with some pet owners who seem to think their sentient canine companions are nothing more important than the family room couch?

And when the couch shows too much wear, they throw the old one out at the curb and buy a new one. And tragically, that is exactly their sentiment and decision about their senior dog.

Early Thursday morning, a rescuer posted about a 15-year-old Doberman Pinscher surrendered to the Houston Humane Society in Texas because he was old and having trouble getting up and walking around.

We have a purebred doberman who was brought to HHS as an owner surrender/euthanasia request on 12/19. Jax is a 15 year old dobie. At almost 90 pounds, Jax has some pain in his joints and according to his previous owner, he has some trouble laying down and getting comfortable. Because of the pain, he can become a bit irritable and spicy.

His owner also stated that at times he seems dazed and confused. This poor guy is probably so afraid of being in the shelter and he is stressed wondering where his owner went.

We are trying to get him out of the shelter as soon as possible, and we are hoping to get him into a rescue group that can get to know him and understand what he needs at this stage in his life.
