In Warm Springs, Oregon, firefighters had been alerted to reports from area residents about a dozen puppies and their mother having been trapped under a home severely damaged by fire on July 22.

According to Fences for Fido (FFF) it had been the Warm Springs Fire and Safety, who responded to the family trapped way beneath the rubble from the fire. In the Newsweek report, the non-profit rescue were told that cries from the puppies could be heard from underneath the home. Huge hearted rescuers were able to save a litter of three-month-old puppies, but there were still more puppies cries reported.

We went right away and were able to rescue the mama and the first litter of 3-month-old puppies. The very next day, FFF Warm Springs Community Coordinator Chey Herkshan, a tribal member, could hear crying from under the house. It was then discovered there was another litter of younger puppies, maybe 4 weeks old, buried under the rubble toward the back of the house.

It was then rescuers searched the debris strewn area and found another litter of younger puppies – no more than four weeks of age. The Warm Springs Fire and Safety were able to intervene and to save the eight more puppies who were all reunited with their mother.

The older puppies are now in the care of the Oregon Dog Rescue and will be available for adoption once they have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The mother dog and her four-week-old puppies are under the care of the Oregon Humane Society where they will be eligible for adoption at the appropriate age.
