A Florida homeowner learned a painful lesson on Tuesday after trying to convince an alligator to leave his Englewood yard. It seems the alligator had been enjoying a leisurely snooze when the property owner tried to get the gator to move.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission news release,

The property owner attempted to remove the alligator himself and sustained a bite injury to one of his arms. A contracted nuisance alligator trapper was dispatched and removed the alligator from the premises.

An investigation of the incident is currently being conducted, and the medical condition of the injured man is still unknown.

As to the alligator, he measured 4 feet, 9 inches and was euthanized as per protocol when it involves bite incidents. Residents are encouraged to call the Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866.FWC.GATOR (866.392.4286). In addition, people should only swim in designated areas during daylight and should NEVER feed alligators.

Help protect our wildlife by leaving them alone.

  1. No good resolution here. The homeowner was trying to protect his family and the alligator wanted to sunbathe uninterrupted…

Humans usually “win” over animals……. But in this particular situation, the alligator had bitten the homeowner, so no choices; the alligator was executed……

Part of me is very sorry for the alligator but part of me wonders if the homeowner hadn’t tried to move the alligator, wouldn’t it have been relocated???
