Raleigh, NC – A sweet old teddy bear, described as the “gentlest soul on earth,” found himself at the SPCA of Wake County when his elderly owner got to the point of not being able to care for him anymore. The shelter described the gentle old soul, whose name is Martin:

Martin really is the bestest boy. His former owner said he is extremely gentle, especially with kids — Martin used cuddle up with their grandkids so they could lie their head on him for a nap. He’s great with people of all ages, including seniors, gets along with dogs of all sizes and energy levels, and he is housetrained and crate-trained. Martin is a bit hard of hearing (he’s 10 years old), but he still knows some tricks and loves being rewarded in treats.

Martin

There is a silver lining to this otherwise sad tale…so many people were touched by Martin’s story, and his sweet face, that the shelter “maxed out” on pending adoptions. The shelter staff expects that Martin will be in his new home “very soon.”

Best of luck Martin!

  1. I am very happy that this precious treasure has interested adopters!!! I hope he is rehomed ASAP into a loving furever family who will treat him as a beloved family member for the rest of his life.

I personally know of a few cases where the canine seniors were euthanized (& it’s absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking)…….. the POS families were happy to scoop up anything of financial value and dumped the senior canines to be euthanized at the local shelter. I can only hope and pray that those POSs end up suffering and burning furever in the hottest part of Hell for their cruelty. Their deceased relative would have been absolutely horrified at the fate of his/her beloved companions……

It’s absolutely crucial for anyone who loves their furbabies to have “post death or post required assistance living” plans for their companions.

We promised my Dad on his deathbed that we would always care for his dogs. We have kept our promise (& continue to honor it). It’s not hard. I would gladly trade anything financial to have my parents alive……..

  2. I AM SO HAPPY FOR THE HEROES AND ANGELS!
ALL I KNOW IS THAT THERE IS NOTHING SHORT OF DEATH THAT WOULD SEPARATE ME FROM MY DOG!

  3. Such a shame none of the parents of the grandchildren would take him into their home. I’ve promised my 90 y/o mother to take in her little dog when she passes, I would never think of him being dumped in a shelter. Shame on the old man’s family.
