A woman in Lewisville, North Carolina, was charged with animal cruelty after someone discovered her dog with a deeply embedded collar in its neck. As reported by Fox 8 News, someone was followed by the dog on February 14. The person noticed that the dog was attached to a tether, and when the tether, and collar, were removed, it was apparent that the dog’s neck was badly infected from the collar being embedded in the skin.

The authorities identified 32-year-old Katherine Priscila Murillo as the dog’s owner – she is charged with cruelty to animals for unlawfully, willfully and intentionally causing an animal to be wounded or injured.

The dog was taken to the Forsyth Humane Society for care and is expected to make a complete recovery.
