Elk Grove, CA – A California woman is so distraught over her dog’s death that she has been placed on suicide watch. As reported by the Daily Mail, Faryal Kabir locked herself in a room and threatened to kill herself after learning that her 16-month-old German shepherd, Zeus, had been euthanized by the city of Elk Grove.

Kabir’s family had to call 911 after she threatened to kill herself – responding officers showed up two hours later and took the woman away in handcuffs; she is now sedated at a hospital.

Zeus’s owners had been fighting to save Zeus’ life with the help of lawyers. The dog was designated “dangerous” after biting someone in May 2022 – he was later impounded by animal control and bit an officer who was participating in the impound. The city euthanized Zeus on October 28 – his owners learned of his death after the city emailed their lawyers.

According to the news agency, Kabir “sobbed uncontrollably” after learning about her dog’s death, saying, “No! No! Please don’t do this to me.”

The city stands by its decision, stating that they take, “its duty to preserve public safety and protect the community very seriously.”
