Harris County, TX – Dozens of dogs have a new lease on life after being rescued from conditions called “deplorable.” According to a release from the Houston SPCA, a total of 50 urine-soaked dogs, with feces-matted fur, were rescued from a property near E. 25th Street by Loop 610.

According to the animal welfare agency, the home was filled with debris, feces, and a heavy smell of ammonia.

Dogs were living in squalor

The release states:

The emergency warrant from Harris County Constable Precinct 1 allowed the Houston SPCA to get onto the property to rescue the animals where they are now in the care of the rescue and protection organization’s veterinary staff for individualized treatment including cruelty exams, vaccinations, de-matting, a nutrition plan, and more. A hearing will be scheduled for this case sometime next week.

Residents living in the area are able to report cases of animal cruelty and neglect by calling 713.869.7722 or filing online. Donations to help the agency care for these dogs can be made at this link.
