On August 3, Westside German Shepherd Rescue provided an update about Phoenix, writing:
UPDATE: Phoenix has arrived at the rescue and has already seen an ER doctor. He’s waiting to see the vet we call the “skin guru” on Wednesday, but we don’t know his long-term prognosis until he sees the skin doctor, so we can’t make any long term plans until then. Thank you all so much for caring so deeply about Phoenix. In such a dark time for dogs, your support means so much to us. So grateful!
A young German shepherd, approximately one year of age, was recently picked up by animal control in Los Angeles, California. The dog, dubbed Phoenix, has paws that are so badly burned that he is unable to walk.
On Sunday, the Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles posted images of the dog, and his injured paws, explaining the sad situation:
MY NAME IS PHOENIX!
I’m not feeling well because the pads on all four feet are badly burned and peeling off, so I don’t even want to try to stand! I was picked up by animal control and I’m not sure what happened to me – it is all a blur. My legal hold period is up today, which means it is okay to euthanize me tomorrow at the high-kill shelter. I get it! Who would want me? I’m not even a year old, and I’m really so sad!
The rescue group explained that they are “overwhelmed” with dogs who need help, and asked for donations to assist with Phoenix’s medical care. Donations can be made via the following ways:
