A puppy in northern Minnesota suffered horrible injuries from a tie-out cable which was left around his waist as he grew. The Animal Humane Society posted a graphic image of the injury, and explained what is known about the sad situation:
Tied up and left for dead. That’s how our rescue partners in northern Minnesota put it when they told us about Baylor, a 4-month-old shepherd mix. Hearing a crying puppy, a Good Samaritan notified our partners that something seemed wrong. They found Baylor in a window well, with a tie-out cable wrapped tightly around his abdomen.
According to the organization, the pup was barely responsive by the time that he was found. Animal Humane explains how the puppy was likely saved by his mother:
Baylor’s mother stood by watching as if to protect him from any further harm. She’d likely been feeding him so he could survive.
Describing Baylor’s terrible injury:
As Baylor’s rescuers pulled him to safety, they made a gruesome discovery. The cord was embedded into the tissue around his waist, causing major trauma to his stomach. It was clear that this wasn’t an accident.
The puppy required emergency care to save his life.
Yesterday, our veterinary team performed an emergency procedure to reattach Baylor’s lower abdominal skin and restore urinary function. It’s an uncommon surgery, but our expert vets knew exactly what to do. Baylor is now safely recovering in a foster home.
According to the rescue agency, the other animals were seized from the home where Baylor was found and the police were notified about the cruel situation.
