Estimated 75 animals died in petting zoo barn fire

An estimated 75 animals have died in a barn fire at an Alabama petting zoo. According to a release from the city of Gadsden, a fire broke out during the early morning hours at a barn located at Noccalula Falls Park.

The release states:

Gadsden Fire Chief Wil Reed said a fire was reported at the park by a passerby around 5:45 a.m., and responding firefighters found the petting zoo/barn fully engulfed.

The blaze killed birds, baby alligators, a tortoise, 10 turtles and 20 to 25 guinea pigs, reports the Gadsden Times.

So far, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Fire officials are conducting an investigation, and the park will remain closed until further notice.
