Something good has emerged from an otherwise sad situation. On Thursday, the Foundling Kitten Society wrote a Facebook post on behalf of an elderly cat who lost her home when her owner became unable to care for her. The cat, named Sushi, has stage 4 kidney disease and was in need of a hospice foster home.
The original post for help was made on Sept. 10, but nobody stepped up to take Sushi in. On Thursday, the animal welfare agency wrote:
NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON has offered to foster Sushi. Please come up with a plan for your pets in the event that you become unable to care for them. Don’t assume your family will take them in, they won’t. Don’t assume someone will just magically appear and take them in and love them the way you loved them, they won’t.
Sushi deserves better than this.
But that post went viral, reaching over 20,000 people. The group writes:
As of this Sunday, Sushi will join the Surfcat Cafe and Adoptions family. In the 9 hours that this post has been up, it has reached over 20,000 people!! THAT IS AMAZING GUYS!! Thank you so much for networking sweet Sushi. It may not always feel like it, but EVERY share is SO valuable to rescues! You only need to reach that one single person, and you never know who it might be or where you might find them!!

Things are looking up for Sushi, but it is important to not lose site of the Foundling Kitten Society’s original message…have plans in place for your pets because family and friends are not guaranteed to help if something happens to you.
