In Lakewood, Washington, a man was arrested on Sunday after leading the Washington State Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase while his dog sat behind the wheel in the driver’s seat.
According to CNN, the 51-year-old man had been speeding at 100 mph from Marysville to Arlington, hitting two cars along the way on Interstate 5. No injuries were reported. The car had been moving erratically when multiple drivers called 911.
As one of the troopers tried to corner the vehicle and looked inside, he was shocked to see a pit bull sitting in the driver’s seat while the suspect steered the vehicle. The driver continually tried to evade capture, and it finally came to authorities using spike strips to stop the car.
Now here’s the best part of the story. During the arrest, the state trooper asked the suspect for an explanation, and the man stated he was “trying to teach his dog how to drive.”
The man has been charged with reckless endangerment, hit and run, driving under the influence and felony eluding. His bond was set at $8,500.
As for the dog, the spokesperson for the Washington State Patrol, stated she was “a very sweet girl” and was taken to the animal shelter after her owner was arrested.
